Daniel Schweizer was born on March 24, 1959 in Geneva. After his studies of art at Voltaire College he continued his studies at the School of Visual Arts in Geneva. During this time he completed several internships and worked on picture and sound of documentary and fiction films in French-speaking Switzerland.
In 1982, he took up his education at ESEC École Supérieure dEtudes Cinématographique in Paris. In the same year he additionally worked as a second, then as a first assistant producer for Télévision Suisse Romande and for feature films.
In 1993, his first documentary VIVRE AVEC got excellent international reviews. This film, as well as a great part of his later ones, was presented on several international festivals, given an award in Leipzig, and selected to be the Swiss contribution for the European Film Award. His second film, SYLVIE, received a mention of the jury of the European Film Price.
The cinema of Daniel Schweizer is demanding and committed, dealing with the here and now. He regularly works on co-productions with international primary TV channels such as Arte (France), ZDF (Germany), RTBF (Belgium), SVT (Sweden) and YLE (Finland).
Schweizer is a member of different associations of directors. He is working as a freelance director and producer in Geneva, Paris and Zurich. Since March, 2001, Daniel Schweizer is shareholder of Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion, Zurich. His responsibility includes the development of film projects for cinema and television.
His new documentary WHITE TERROR is being currently in production in cooperation with Little Bear, Paris. |
