Alessandro Rossetto was born in Padua, Italy, in 1963. He studied documentary filmmaking, fotography and camera at the Centre de Recherche Cinématographique de Nanterre, Université de Paris.
His first long documentary, «Il fuoco di Napoli», about the Neapolitan pyrotechnics challenging danger with clear-headedness and intelligence, was invited to several international film festivals, and was also shown at the Vision du Réel festival in Nyon. It was also shown on many internationational televison stations.
In the 90s, he finished «Bibione Bye Bye One», a very personal work consisting of observation and meditation about a village - a seaside resort becoming a poetic mirror of the human condition. This film was made in cooperation with ARTE, TELE+, the BBC and the Finnish channel YLE.
Rossetto’s «Chiusura», is a portrayal of a hair salon owner in Rossetto's hometown Padua, leaving us touched and nostalgic, but also happy. “A marvellous film for those able to appreciate the meandering drift of time passing”. «Chiusura» aired on several European TV channels.
For two years he has been working on the scripts «L’Aria che Respiro» and «Maggio Selvaggio», which is about the Chemical Industry in Northest of Italy and to the life and the school in the biggest Italian prison of Rome.
A critic once very aptly described the director as follows: “His cinematic eye is invaluable, full of curiosity and sensitivity. In his films he leads us to encounters with situations and winsome characters, revealing their imaginations, views of the world and everyday life which is depicted accurately and poetically.”
